CONFERENCE
slovak language in spiš
25 november 2023
On 25 November 2023, a conference entitled Slovak in Spiš was held in Spišské Podhradie. We participated not only as co-organizers, but also as speakers. Members of our team — Professor Martin Homza, Dr. Peter Benka, and Dr. Ivana Lukáč Labancová — presented the results of their ongoing research to both professional and general audiences. The conference was organized by the Spiš Historical Society in Levoča and the Department of Slovak History, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava.

FINAL SYMPOSIUM
spišská kapitula
16–19 July 2021
Between 16 and 19 July 2021, a concluding scholarly symposium was held in Spišská Kapitula — the very place where the outlines of the project had first taken shape. Members of the research team, external collaborators, and representatives of cooperating archival institutions met once again to assess, in their contributions, the course and results of the project: its strengths and weaknesses, the goals that had been achieved, and, conversely, the limitations that became apparent during the research process (M. Homza and S. Kuzmová). The symposium also featured presentations of the most recent and then still forthcoming project outputs (M. Jesenský, N. Labancová, I. Labancová, M. Homza). The project researchers also agreed on the subsequent direction of the follow-up project.

Opening Symposium
SPIŠSKÁ KAPITULA
30 January – 2 February 2018
Between 30 January and 2 February 2018, a scholarly symposium was held in Spišská Kapitula, attended not only by members of the project team but also by representatives of cooperating archival institutions and researchers from Slovakia and abroad. In their presentations, the participating specialists assessed the current state of research on Slovak texts from the pre-standardization period in Upper Hungary (P. Benka on Šariš in the early modern period; M. Homza and N. Labancová on Spiš; P. Žigo on questions of transcription and linguistic character).
The participants of the working meeting specified further areas of research, methods, methodological frameworks, and time horizons for the individual stages of studying and editing Slovak texts from the pre-standardization period. The requirements of grant-based research were aligned with the practical research possibilities in individual archives. Several practical matters were also settled, including the title of the edition and the principles of transcription.
