Even today, many archival holdings in Slovakia and abroad remain insufficiently catalogued, making it necessary for us to examine selected collections in detail and actively identify Slovacica materials. At the same time, the project greatly benefits from close cooperation with several archival institutions, without which its implementation would often not be feasible.

At present, it is not feasible to edit every Slovacica source we discover. The selection process thus follows several criteria, including chronological, technical, staffing and other considerations. Our methodology is interdisciplinary, as only an interdisciplinary approach can provide a comprehensive interpretation of the sources. We therefore collaborate with specialists on specific source genres.

The Slovac texts we identify, select and analyze (produced before to 1800) are subsequently transliterated, furnished with a critical apparatus, and published together with scholarly studies that contextualize their production and use in the early modern period.

Our team (consisting of permanent members and external collaborators) includes historians, linguists, literary scholars, sociolinguists, archivists, musicologists and other specialists whose expertise is required by the character of the sources. Through collaboration and regular meetings, we cultivate a strong scholarly community.

It has never been our intention to keep the results of our research to ourselves. From the outset, and alongside archival research, analysis, critical editing of sources, and publication, we have developed a platform for outreach and public engagement. This led to the creation of the lecture series Reči o reči (“On Language”), which brings together experts from Slovakia and abroad.

The Monumenta Linguae Slovacae series includes source editions and monographs. Beyond this, we also publish scholarly studies and both academic and popularizing articles in a variety of journals and edited collections.
